Review of Selsun Anti Dandruff Lotion

I bought Selsun Anti dandruff Lotion in 2011 on suggestion of my best friend; I didn't have much dandruff at that time so I only used it once or twice and kept in my 'cosmetic left over bag'. Then in January 2013 I had terrible dandruff, even I couldn't wear black T-Shirts. I tried curd and all, but it wasn't much affected. One day I recalled that I had Selsun lotion in my cosmetic left over bag. I checked the expiry date and I was so happy to see that it has 54 months from the date of Manufacture to expire. I used it for around 7-8 wash and my dandruff is completely gone.
I think this is the best lotion I even come across for dandruff with economic price.

It says to use it after washing with shampoo but I don't use any other shampoo and wash my head with Selsun while leaving it for 5-10 mins. I never needed to use shampoo before applying Selsun lotion.

ClaimPrevent and control dandruff

CostWhen I bought it, I think it was Rs. 150 for 120 ml, can't see properly as it has been wiped off.

Pros:Prevented and controlled dandruff in few washes.

Conslight stinging or tingling with little redness when you keep the lotion on scalp and it drips on your face.

Rating: 5/5, I will surely use it every-time whenever I will have dandruff.

Natural Products

The nature is endowed with many natural ingredients that can be used to get brilliant skin tone. Here are some which I have tried so far.

For external Use

Fuller earth: The best remedy for oily skin and enlarge pores. It removes excess oil and help to reduce the size of pores. But remember do not use it everyday, it can turn your skin to bone white. Twice a week would be fine. Better if you use it in summers.

Non-homogenized milk: Very good cleanser, it is suitable for me in both conditions (oily and dry). After cleansing, leave milk for 15 minutes on your face it will reduce the dark spot, if used regularly.

Non-homogenized milk cream: It is a blessing for dry skin, or for winters. Use it regularly, it will surely reduce your wrinkles and will make your skin smooth and baby soft.

Almond: Have 3-4 soaked almonds in the morning empty stomach, especially in winters, it will improve your skin and hair.

Almond oil is very great for skin and hair. It increase elasticity of your skin and reduce wrinkles (remember it is dryness which cause early wrinkles). It stimulates growth of hair, by growth I don’t mean to grow new hairs, but it will speed up the length.

Egg white: Very good for oily skin and tighten the pores. Just apply it with figure on your face. You can use it everyday.

For Consumption

Pomegranates: Whenever I feel, I am losing weight or my face is getting pale, I consume pomegranates. Within a week my skin starts to have that pinkish effect.

Apple: “An apple a day keeps a doctor away” but I am not very fond of apple, however, whenever I have headache it helps me. Initially when I said this to my friend she started laughing. Then fortunately I found this research which says Apple do help in headaches. After removing the upper rind and the inner hard portion of a ripe apple eat it slowly.

Oranges: How can anyone forget about most famous source of vitamin C, this is a blessing for healthy glowing skin.

Guava: I love this fruit, very tasty indeed. Single common guava fruit contains about four times the amount of vitamin C as an orange. One of the benefits of guava is constipation relief. And for healthy skin you need both Vitamin C and healthy digestion system.

Coconut water: This is the best natural water without any impurity or process. Coconut water has high potassium content and contains antioxidants. It gives you healthy glow.

Dry fruits: Eat dry fruits in winter. That is the best time for them. It keeps you body warm as well.

Dates: I just like them. Whenever I have feelings of eat something sweet, I like to eat dates. I haven’t actually figured out how they are affecting my skin, but yeah they taste good.

Unfortunately I am not very affectionate toward vegetables; I just eat carrots or sometimes beetroots.

And finally remember, winters are the best time when you can build your stamina for rest of the year, whether it is food or workout.

Review for Anti-Tan creams

Betnovate C:  I came to know about this ointment through my hostel friends. They told me it is very common in girls and they use it almost every day. And I thought let’s give a try. And you can’t believe it does make you skin look really good. It will give you very fair complexion. You look actually bright. You can’t stop looking into the mirror. But Alas! After using this ointment for 4-5 months (I used 2 tubes in this duration during the night) with very small quantity I realized my skin was getting very thin. Even I was able to see the veins of my cheeks besides my more pores were getting enlarge. So, I stopped using it, after this my skin became patchy and too sensitive to sun. Betnovate C always forces you to use it again, but it has terrible side effects. I will not suggest anyone to use this ointment. But if you have to go for some party and you just have one night to look gorgeous, you can use it once in a while. But remember never ever continue with it. It is very harmful and always tempts you. I have stopped using it for almost a year and still my skin is not back to normal.

Cost: Rs 30-35 for 30gm
Pros: Fair the complexion
Cons: Thinning of skin you can see the web of veins. Skin become hypersensitive.
Rating: 2.5/5

BAN A TAN: This is the cream which I used for dark patches which I got after Betnovate C.
Betnovate C made my skin hyper sensitive and this was the first time I got serious rashes, however they were gone within 3-4 days. My nose had dark black spot. I applied it on nose only, as nose’s skin is much thicker than the cheeks, and it did work however you have to avoid the sun completely.
Cost: Rs 199 for 25gm
Pros: Lighten dark spot on thick skin
Cons: Rashes on sensitive skin.
Rating: 2.5/5

NILTAN:  Then my skin doctor suggested me to use milder cream which was NILTAN. It didn’t cause any side effect but works slower than BAN A TAN. But again if you want to use this cream for you AVOID Sun completely otherwise spots will come back.

Cost: Rs 150-170 for 15gm
Pros: Lighten dark spot to some extent
Cons: if you go  in sun for a while you can again see the dark spots. Slow process
Rating: 3/5

TANCLEAR: This is again same as NILTAN. I still wonder why my doctor changes NILTAN to TANCLEAR because both have same ingredients and almost same effect.
Cost: Rs 170 for 15gm
Pros: Lighten dark spot to some extent
Cons: if you go  in sun for a while you can again see the dark spots. Slow process
Rating: 3/5

U.V. AVO (Sunscreen): Medicated sunscreen for Oily skin. This is with SPF 25, and trusts me this is the best Sunscreen I have used so far for Oily skin (especially in summers) and smells really good.
Cost: Rs 150-180(can't actually recall the price) for 30gm
Pros: non greasy, very good for oily skin
Cons: if you have less oily skin you have to mix it with Sofradex Cream.
Rating: 4/5

Review for IQ Natural Glycolic Acid

I have bought IQ natural Pure Glycolic Acid Chemical Pro Kit Medical Grade Peel AHA 60% peel kit from eBay online. I received it on the 14th day including Saturdays & Sundays which was quicker than I expected.

This Kit includes:
  • Application Fan Brush
  • Glycolic Renewing Cleanser
  • Glycolic Renewing Toner
  • Glycolic Acid Peel
  • Glycolic Therapy Moisturizer
  • Vinyl Zipper Case
  • 15 Gauze Pads
  • Detailed Directions

I bought 60% strength of glycolic acid and diluted it to 30%. In glass bowl I took half of the 60% glycolic acid and half of water which makes it 30% of strength (prepared it before I started the process).
I must say cleanser is just awesome. I feel my skin so refreshed and clean, I even didn't wanted to go for next step which was toner.  However, after toning I applied glycolic acid with fan brush which is very silky and soft.
First day, I left it for only 1 minute and then next week for 2-3 minutes. My skin was stinging and was little reddish. However, it was temporary and rinse it with cool clean water mixed with a pinch of baking soda to neutralize and pat dry, then applied moisturizer. After 4 weeks of use my spots were lighten and skin was also shining. I didn't have any skin peeling though.
Remember to avoid sun otherwise you will regret to use it.

Rating: 3.5/5 (I am giving it 3.5 because of Sun sensitivity and stinging, however, it is mentioned clearly).

Hair care

The most important part of your look and health is hair. Trust me style and quality of hair define your personality. Never ever ignore them.
Till High School I had very thick hair but during exams they start falling. Reason was obvious too much stress and I was too young and ignorant to think about it. But it’s never too late until you are over 30.

I was having high hair fall for last 6-7 years. In summers (which last for almost six month in India) I thought it is because of sweating and in fall season (which last for 3 months) hair does fall generally for everyone. So time passed with this thought only. I thought if my hair is falling without any chemical treatment why should I not give a try to it and finally I had rebounding. I can’t forget those great feeling when your hair is so silky, smooth and manageable even without comb.
Then, there was a great disaster after a week. My hair was falling like 200 strands per day. I was feeling I will be bald in few days. Finally I rush to the doctor. I told him my hair is not falling just because of chemical treatment, they were falling before as well but now condition is worst.

My doctor advised me Ultrasound of pelvis and blood test. And there was the root cause. I had polycystic which was the main reason of my hair fall before chemical treatment. In blood test we found my iron level was low (not lower than the required minimum amount but not enough for hair strength).  He prescribes me oral medicine, shampoo and tincture.

Iron Tablets: Doctor advised me some Iron tablets to increase Iron level but I will suggest try to avoid them, unless you have iron deficiency. Believe me or not, it increases your aging process and open up your pores. It is better if you take vegetables and fruits which have iron in plenty. I told my doctor, however he wasn’t very much agree to me. But when I insist he stopped prescribing me and I used sultanas which did increase my iron level.

Cost: Fornia-XT cost me Rs 80 for 10 tablets
Rating: 2.5/5
Pros: Increase the iron level and bring pinkish effect on my skin
Cons: Fasten aging process.

Xgain Shampoo: Trust me this is the best shampoo I have ever used. It is very mild and makes your hair so soft and shiny. You don’t need conditioner after this shampoo. My hair fall was less comparison to another shampoo. I will suggest this shampoo to everyone.

Cost: Rs 170 for 100ml
Rating: 4.5/5
Pros: silky and shiny hair, less hair fall
Cons: couldn't find any.

K2 Zole: This is a good shampoo for dandruff. I had dandruff even during the summers which was one of the causes of hair fall. My doctor prescribed me this shampoo when he noticed dandruff. And it actually worked for me. After 3-4 wash I had very less dandruff.
Cost: Rs 160 for 100ml
Rating: 3.5/5
Pros: Less dandruff
Cons: not for me

Olamin Scalp Lotion: My doctor advised me this shampoo when I had too much dandruff. This was really helpful. Remember in winters; do not wash your head with hot water. Try to use normal temperate, because hot water will cause dryness in scalp, which is very hard to get rid of.

Cost: Rs 200 for 50ml
Rating: 3.5/5
Pros: Less dandruff
Cons: hair become slightly rough

Wella BioTouch Shampoo and Conditioner for unmanageable and straightened hair:This shampoo and hair mask was been advised by beautician who did my rebounding. If you want to have your hair straight for longer period, give it a try. But do not forget to use hair  serum as well. Only use it if you have done rebounding otherwise go for Xgain shampoo for natural shine and look.

Cost: Rs 390 for 250ml Shampoo, Rs 400 for 150 hair mask
Rating: 3/5
Pros: if you have done re-bonding, a good shampoo and mask to manage it for long time.
Cons: hair-fall and dandruff

Folica Hair tincture: Use this tincture only if doctor advised you because you need some oral medicines to work this tincture. When you apply it initially you will lose lots of hair. Doctor said, it will let all your weak hair fall which is supposed to be fall in next two months and stimulate the growth of new hair. (every hair has its own life cycle and they fall after completing it). If anyone is using it or want to use I will suggest apply it in clean head (when you have washed your hair and dried). Because if you apply in polluted hairs, they will get tangle and fall more.

Cost: Rs 117 for 100ml
Rating: 3/5
Pros: did control hair-fall for some extent
Cons: didn't see new hair where I had bald patch because of re-bonding, redness occur if it drops on skin and very itchy.

Seacod or Fish oil: I am very regular in consuming fish oil in winters. It keeps me away from cold and cough, and makes me skin, hair and nail shiny.

Cost: Rs 137 for 100 capsules
Rating: 5/5
Pros: Hair, nail and skin shines. Protect for cold and cough in winters.
Cons: haven't seen any from last 9 years.

Review for Glyco-A cream with AHA glow face wash

I have been fascinated towards Glycolic acid for a while now. So, I thought it is better to create a new page and divide it according to concentration level.

I was always very curious towards Glycolic acid. I did lots of online study and got very mix reviews. For some results were very amazing and for some that was a real disaster. Maximum reviews were from white skin. I have tried to find out for Indian or brown color skin, there were only very few, which were not actually reviews just the information.

I have been to Kaya Skin Clinic and VLCC as well, but they seem to be very greedy without caring of anyone’s skin. Kaya Skin Clinic advises me to go for Cosmo peel. I asked them, which acid they will use. They said TCA which was a big no-no for me for initial stage. I only wanted to go for Glycolic peel and when they came to know about my knowledge related to chemicals they showed less interest. As they knew they can’t fool me.

Finally I decide to start by myself with low level concentration.

Glyco-A (12% Glycolic acid) cream base: I have applied it during the night. For initial 5 minutes there was sensation which irritated me every time, I applied.
According to instructions, I should use it at bed time for one week and then twice a day. I follow the instructions for 20 days and I didn’t find it useful. I have stopped using it.

Claim: Removing wrinkles and improve texture of skin
Cost: Rs 149 for 30g
Rating: 2/5
Pros: It removed access oil of my skin
Cons: irritation.
Will I use it again: No

AHAGLOW Face wash: Simultaneous I am using AHAGLOW face wash with 1% Glycolic acid, to maintain.

Now gradually I have decided to get for higher concentration like 25%. I have order it online. As soon as I will use it will update on blog.

Just a quick update- I have tried Glycolic peel with 25% concentration  Please  see the review under Review for IQ Natural Glycolic Acid

Review for Lakme Sunscreen SPF30 for oily skin

LakmeI have used “Lakme Sun Expert with SPF 30” for oily skin. It is a good sunscreen for dry skin because when you keep this tube for some time in winters, oil and cream get separated. And you can actually see how much oil it has. Besides it does have very bitter taste (however that was not my intention to taste it at all. For oily skin better to go for U.V. AVO (which I have mention under medicated skin products).
